Why Travel Should Be An Essential Part Of Your Self-Care Routine

Posted on

There are two kinds of people, those who believe travel is a form of self care and those who feel it to be a frivolous self indulgence.  No points for guessing we’re firmly in the camp that believes travel to be the most pleasurable form of self care available. To escape the daily grind and swap the inbox for  a change of scene, physical movement, healthy eating and time to reflect is just what the doctor ordered!

Taking time off from work is an essential form of self-care. Whether you opt for a staycation in the city or decide to use all your vacation days on a far flung, exotic location across the world, there are plenty of ways to rest, relax and rejuvenate after all that #hustling.

Still need convincing? Read on to find out why you should make travel an essential form of self care.

Travel is ideal for taking some time out for yourself in order to reflect on your progress and journey so far.

Whether that’s the progress you’ve been making at work and the career journey you’ve come on so far, or it’s reflecting on your entire life journey; travel is a great excuse to hold yourself accountable for your progress.

Spending time in beautiful places where you’re free of any distractions of work and personal life means that you can spend time reconnecting with yourself and thinking about how far you’ve come in order to get to where you want to be.

Another great reason that travel is an essential form of self-care is that it really broadens your mind.

Whether that’s to do with learning to accept and acknowledge other cultures and behaviours, or whether it’s allowing yourself to try out new cuisines and make friends with people of all kinds of backgrounds; travel is essential to growth as a person.

It also teaches you patience and tolerance and means that you’ll learn so much about things you’d have never known otherwise. You may discover a new-found love for seafood that you’d have never realised if you hadn’t tried it while travelling! Or you may discover a city that you’d never even heard of, but now consider it to be one of your favourite places in the world!

It’s so easy to get preoccupied with the burdens of life when we’re in the same environment with the same people. While escapism isn’t always the solution to problems, sometimes we have to step back from our stressors to think clearly. Travelling also encourages living in the moment, as we become busy taking in every beautiful experience presently happening around us.

Travelling in luxury is the perfect way to get away from the rat race back home and put your feet up. Just by being able to ask someone to cook whatever you want or take care of your taxis to and from town you’ll feel refreshed and at ease.

Remember that the whole aim of your trip is to come back rested and relaxed in a way that you couldn’t achieve if you had taken a few days off and relaxed around the house. Make the most of it and don’t be afraid to let someone else share the burden; that’s what these luxury retreats do best!
